Collegiate Romance: Brittan & Matt in South Bend, IN
On August 16, 2014, Brittan Maureen Mawby fulfilled a lifelong dream when she married Matthew George Leiser at the University of Notre Dame’s gorgeous cathedral. “I was blessed to have attended college there, and I always wanted to get married on campus at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart served as the grand backdrop to Brittan and Matt's big day. In addition to breathtaking painted ceilings, this Gothic-inspired church features the largest collection of 19th-century French stained glass in the world.

The bride enjoyed a fun-filled day of dress shopping with her mother and sisters at Posh Bridal in Minneapolis, ultimately selecting a Steven Birnbaum Bridal dress that was stunning in its simplicity. “I knew our ceremony and reception venues would be beautiful in and of themselves, so I chose to go with a more timeless ballgown style,” Brittan says.
Bow-backed heels from Nordstrom added a sweet touch to Brittan’s ensemble. Her subtle “something blue” was an aquamarine necklace that her father gifted to her mother when they first started dating (it’s also her birthstone). She also wore a silver bracelet belonging to her mom and carried her grandmother’s handkerchief with her on the big day.
MichaelAngelos The Event Company provided all of the florals for the event, including the bride's full and lush hydrangea, peony, ranunculus, and rose bouquet. The bridesmaids carried soft pink hydrangea bouquets.
The couple opted against using a wedding planner — the bride and her mother planned the entire event together. “Our parents were instrumental in helping us orchestrate our gorgeous wedding weekend. We were surrounded by loving family members and friends, who made the day such a special one,” Brittan shares.
In keeping with the neutral color scheme, Brittan outfitted her six bridesmaids and two maids of honor in short Jenny Yoo dresses. “The gold jacquard hue was beautiful, and the sweetheart neckline was a subtle nod to my own ball gown style,” she says.
The newlyweds’ gold script invitation was a labor of love by one of their bridesmaids, Emily Bailey. Sharon Margiotta from Shar’n Smiles designed all of their other stationery, including ceremony programs and signs.
